Training courses: Sign up to Influencing Skills and Building Confidence July 2020

The TALENT project team is pleased to offer a second round of two online courses, Influencing Skills and Building Confidence. Spaces are available separately for each as they are standalone courses, but please do note that you will need to attend both part 1 and 2 for each. Both courses will be delivered in an interactive way online.

Influencing Skills

Whatever your role in the university, influencing will be key to achieving results.  For technicians, this includes both formal and informal contacts with fellow staff members and others inside and beyond the institution.  This course uses recognised frameworks based on research and practice to take you through effective influencing and negotiating approaches.  It also looks at different contexts and how to tailor your approach to the situation in front of you.

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • understand and use a range of influencing and negotiating strategies
  • identify how you can use influencing, negotiating and persuading skills in your work
  • use effective influencing strategies in a variety of situations including ‘influencing upwards’

The session is highly interactive and participative with the opportunity to work through live examples to explore the key concepts and approaches introduced.

Building Confidence

Most of us feel more confident in some areas of our work than others.  Technicians may feel that their confidence is challenged in some situations and may want to build confidence to achieve more.  This course uses recognised frameworks based on research and practice to help you build confidence and act more assertively at work.  It also looks at different contexts and how to tailor your approach to the situation in front of you.

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • understand the sources of personal confidence and how to address areas where you feel less confident
  • have more confidence in communicating effectively
  • understand how to act assertively in challenging situations
  • act with confidence in a variety of situations

The session is highly interactive and participative with the opportunity to work through live examples to explore the key concepts and approaches introduced.
