This workshop will include the use of breakout rooms for you to share your thoughts and experiences and hear from others across the eight Midlands Innovation Universities.

There is some pre-session work for you to complete before the workshop, this is to help everyone to get the most out of the live session.

Target Audience: Any member of staff who is required to undertake an appraisal process at their organisation.

In this session we will:

  • Discuss reasons for taking part in an appraisal process
  • Discuss how to evidence previous performance/ behavioural standards
  • Discuss ways to identify future objectives
  • Create a SMART objective

*Please note that we are using the generic term “appraisal” to refer to any predicted cycle of activity related to reviewing individual performance, identifying learning and development needs and setting objectives. An appraisal conversation usually happens yearly, although there may be six monthly or quarterly reviews within the appraisal cycle, and other more frequent conversations where individuals can discuss performance/ objectives/ learning and development needs with their line management e.g. one to ones with a manager or supervisor. This workshop will not provide specific advice on the process or paperwork used by any individual organisation, and you should follow any training or guidance offered by your home institution/ local HR team on the specific process/ paperwork you should follow.

Location: Online

Duration: 90 minute workshop (Approximately 60 minutes pre-session activity)

Related sessions: This session can be taken on its own, or combined with the “Identifying your learning and development needs” workshop. You can complete the workshops in any order.
