Guest Blog: Unlocking expertise through the Festival of Learning

“Technical colleagues from seven of the eight Midlands Innovation partners dialled in to events happening as part of week two of MI Talent’s Festival of Learning.

On Wednesday, Jenna from Leicester took us through how to facilitate a group problem solving session with the opportunity to practice our new skills in the last part of the workshop. No-one wanted the practice session to end, with colleagues from different universities asking great open questions and offering support to help solve a real-life issue. We want to stay in touch to find out what happens next!

Financial Education Specialists Affinity Connect delivered a “Financial Planning for Retirement” workshop on Thursday morning, suitable to anyone up to seven years from retirement. This was well-presented, offered a lot of information to take away and everyone left with increased knowledge on how to plan for their financial future.

Rounding off the week, MI TALENT’s Sandy Sparks hosted a session on “Updating my LinkedIn profile”, with dedicated time for attendees to get on to LinkedIn and make those all-important updates. Attendees also left with more LinkedIn connections and a checklist of other actions they could take to improve their LinkedIn profiles. Based on feedback, Sandy is hoping to run more of these, and to run follow-on sessions where we can unlock the next level of LinkedIn expertise :)

The E-learning offered exclusively as part of the Festival has also proven popular – you can get access to these resources by registering your interest here. So even if you can’t make it to a live session, we hope you can still add some learning into your day through a video or e-learning course.

Join us next week for the final week of the festival, where we’ll be learning Problem Solving techniques with Ed on Monday, Exploring Technical Careers with Michelle on Tuesday, Boosting our Resilience and Explaining what we do to different audiences on Wednesday and exploring the theme of Collaboration in our third and final Learning Café on Friday.

Don’t miss out – reserve your place on any of these sessions using this link here.
